PAN AM Series — Pan Am Pilot Dick Mayer in Uniform and on Stage
Pan Am pilot Dick Mayer is the kind of person whose smile and energy fill a room. A skilled pilot and a fun-loving personality, Dick has a wide range of interests — from music to horses — that show just how multi-dimensional a Pan Am captain could be.
A Man of Many Talents
Outside the cockpit, Dick sang in a barber shop quartet and played trumpet with Dixieland bands. On his property in Danville, California, he spent time helping his kids learn to ride horses — a side of him rooted in patience and family.
Two Sides of the Same Man
The Pan Am pilot photo of Dick captures his serious, professional side — the one passengers saw when he wore the uniform. By contrast, his musician photos reveal the humor, joy, and playful spirit that emerged when he was performing on stage or rehearsing with friends.
